Coaching
Here are some suggestions on how to approach a race or run/walk:
- At the starting line - Line up according to how fast you plan to run or walk. Slower runners and walkers should move to the back of the start.
- Pay attention to pre-race instructions. Listen for safety instructions from the officials.
- Make sure you have your race number on the front. We carry race belts at ACME that will keep you from pinning your number to your shirt or shorts.
- When you approach a water station, move past the first few tables to the last few tables. They are usually not packed. You can get your drink or gel and move on. Use the trash cans if possible, or at least get it close to the trash can.
- Be careful where you spit. Move to the side of the road so you can be sure you won't spit on someone.
- If you need to stop for any reason (stretch, tie your shoe, etc), move to the side of the road or sidewalk. You don't want someone to fall over you.
- Shout words of encouragement along the course. This will do wonders for others and for yourself as well.
- As you approach the finish line, be sure to follow the instructions of the race officials.
- Once you cross the finish line, keep moving through the chute, don't stop at the finish line.
- Be sure to thank all the volunteers, officials, etc. They are giving of their time so you can have a great experience.
- Smile and Have a Great Time!
